Empowering Environmental Stewardship:

Our dedicated volunteers are at the forefront of our land stewardship efforts, working tirelessly to nurture our natural spaces. Through their passion and commitment, they educate us on native species, combat invasive plants, and contribute to the beautification of our surroundings by planting trees and native gardens.

Guided by the expertise of organizations such as The Watershed Institute, FoHVOS, Sourland Conservancy, Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, and D&R Greenway, our initiatives are carefully planned and executed to ensure the preservation of our precious ecosystems.

Starting in 2022, our volunteers embarked on a crucial mission to reclaim our lands from invasive non-native species, particularly the encroaching Japanese Honeysuckle that threatened native Sumac trees. With determination and hard work, they cleared the vines by hand and machine, laying down cardboard as a natural barrier and topping it with wood chips for effective mulching.

Their efforts extended along the Quarry’s edge, where they transformed the overgrown entrance, stabilizing it for long-term sustainability. Additionally, they established a vibrant pollinator garden while diligently removing other invasive foliage to restore balance to our ecosystem.

In 2023, we were awarded a plant grant from Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve. We were awarded 100 native plants to help facilitate the transition to a native landscape. Our native gardens are thriving. Thank you to Bowman Hill Wildflower Preserve's plant grant for helping us launch our gardens. We look forward to sharing the beauty of the gardens and educating our patrons of the value of native plantings to our ecosystem. We plan to continue to offer programs with local experts on this subject. Please look out for upcoming classes!
